About Us
Driving the Future Forward - Innovating Mobility, Empowering Autonomy
UWAFT is a student design team based out of University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University. We compete in the EcoCAR Mobility Challenge, a four-year competition between 12 North American universities. We are transforming a 2023 Cadillac LYRIQ by modifying its electric powertrain, and implementing a sensor and processing suite to enable SAE level 2 autonomy for advanced safety and Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication. We will be undertaking a variety of engineering development projects, including battery optimization, autonomous driving controls, V2X implementation, and so much more!
Our Vision
UWAFT was established in 1996 as one of only a few design teams in the University of Waterloo. Originally located in a small garage in the university’s physics building, a group of engineering students wanted to make a difference in vehicle design and encourage sustainable practices. At UWAFT we continuously break new boundaries in the field of of transportation through innovation, technology, and active student engagement.
